This year's awards were jointly hosted by the editor of Motorcycle News - Marc Potter and Comedian Alan Davies and special guest Charley Boorman, who was on hand to help present no less than 18 different category awards.
The most important and prestigious award is Machine of the Year which was presented to Tim Maccabee for the Desmosedici RR after a dramatic presentation that highlighted the importance of this ground breaking and stunning motorcycle.
The second most prestigious industry award is the Manufacturer of the Year which is judged based on research and investigation carried out by Motorcycle News including market performance, contribution to Motorcycling in the UK, relationships with dealers and customers, and of course product.
Tim Maccabee, Managing Director of Ducati UK commented "I think these awards reflect the effort put in by the whole Ducati team - here, at our factory in Bologna and in our dealerships and it was a great honour to collect the awards on behalf of this team of dedicated people. Our colleagues in Bologna have produced our strongest ever model line-up, while in the UK, the team at Ducati UK together with our dealer network have shown enormous commitment and pride in their work to offer customers a unique blend of professionalism and passion. I am also delighted that the Desmosedici RR was recognised as the bike of the year award reflecting its status as an instant classic. It really is a unique and phenomenal motorcycle, the like of which comes along once in every 15-20 years.2
In some of the sub-categories for individual types of motorcycle Ducati excellence was also recognised. The Monster 696, which is the most successful Monster ever in the UK was highly commended in the 'Best Naked' category while in the Sportsbike over 600cc category both the 1098R and the Desmosedici RR were amongst the four nominated bikes. Representing the dealer network, Ducati Coventry was nominated in the dealer of the year (single outlet) category.
The British Superbike Championship Manufactures award was also presented during the ceremony following the successful campaign of Shane Byrne aboard the Airwaves-Ducati 1098R.
The full 2009 model year range, including the stunning new 1198, Streetfighter and Monster 1100 can be seen at this year's NEC Motorcycle Show which runs from the 28th November to the 7th December. Also on the stand are an Airwaves Ducati 1098R and a 1098R from the British Superbike Cup winning North West 200 Superbike team.
